Servant's Heart Homemaker Services Caregiver job description:

  1. The caregiver is preferred to have at least 2 years experience in client care, or have Nurse Aide Certification within the last year, but it is not required.  They shall be supervised by a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.

  2. The caregiver should be able to do the following:
  1. Communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and make brief and accurate oral presentations to clients, caregivers, and other staff
  2. Observe, report, document client status and the care or service furnished
  3. Have knowledge of basic infection control procedures and universal precautions.
  4. Have knowledge of basic elements of body functioning and changes in body function that must be reported to an caregiver's supervisor
  5. Be able to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment
  6. Recognize emergencies and know emergency procedures
  7. Understand the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of the population served, including the need for respect for the client, the client's privacy, and the client's property
  8. Deliver appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming that include the following:
      1. bed bath
      2. bath (sponge, tub, or shower)
      3. shampoo (sink, tub, or bed)
      4. nail and skin care
      5. oral hygiene
      6. toileting and elimination
  1. Provide safe transfer techniques and ambulation
  2. Understand normal range of motion and positioning
  3. Monitor for adequate nutrition and fluid intake
  4. Provide medication reminders
  5. Participate in regularly scheduled in-services and training provided
  6. Carry out any other tasks (such as cleaning, cooking, ironing, laundry, etc. )that the client may choose to have the caregiver perform
